Pamper your Princesses and Queens!
Written Instructions:
You will need:
Cotton balls or pads
Nail Polish Remover
Bamboo or Birch wood sticks
Ceramic Bowl
River or Glass stones
Bath salts
Pumice stone
(Tweezerman callus shaver or PedEgg if her feet are really rough)
Nail clipper
Nail file
Cuticle trimmer
Nail buffer
Sugar Scrub
Clear Base Coat/Top Coat
Polish
Foot cream
Remove nail polish: Using a cotton pad and nail polish remover, rub the pad over the nail until clean. Use bamboo stick with cotton over the end to remove polish from difficult areas.
Prepare foot soak: Place glass stones in a large ceramic bowl. Fill with warm water. Add 1tbsp bath salt and swish it around a little to dissolve the salts.
Soak feet for at least 5-10min. If she prefers longer (it feels good) this is where it’s handy to have an electric tea kettle around. You can add hot water as needed to the foot bath. Do NOT just pour it in while her feet are in there. Have her remove her feet, and pour little splashes in, until you reach the desired temperature.
Pumice: Drape a towel over your thigh or a pillow, wherever you want her feet to rest while you work on them. Leaving one foot in the water, put the other on the towel and dab some of the moisture off. Get the pumice stone and, holding her foot gently, scrubs the stone over any rough areas of her feet. Continue until they feel soft to the touch. If necessary, use a stronger tool first, then the pumice stone to smooth. When finished, place her pretty ped back in the water, and repeat the same process with the other foot.
Sugar Scrub: Once you are done smoothing out the skin on her feet, wet your hands and use the sugar scrub to massage her feet. This moisturizes them, and exfoliates the top of the foot, between the toes, and other places you obviously don’t rub a pumice stone. After you are done, rinse both feet and pat dry.
Moisturize: Massage her feet with the foot cream. Her feet should already be soft from the sugar scrub, so this is more about focusing on the balls of her feet and heels, for some extra moisture there, and generally making her feel good.
Shape Nails: Trim and file nails as necessary. Be sure to cut straight across, and to file any rough edges. This is also the time to use the bamboo stick to gently push her cuticles back. If the cuticles are still a bother after this, use the cuticle trimmer to take off whatever is in the way. Clean under the nails using a brush or bamboo stick. Buff the tops of the nails and brush away any dust with the towel.
Base Coat: Use the clear base coat and put a nice even layer over each nail. Let dry for a couple minutes.
Polish: Polish each nail with whatever color she chooses, avoiding the skin if possible. If you slip, just wipe the excess away with the bamboo (or your own nail) after the coat on that nail is done. Repeat this process for a second coat, after the first is dry.
Top Coat: After a few more minutes (I usually wait ten) apply the clear top coat. Be careful not to streak the color by brushing over the same area repeatedly. Try to get it done in three stripes. One on each side, then the middle.
Prop her feet up on a pillow while you clean everything up.
Get her a glass of wine and anything else she wants while she waits.
Recipe for Sugar Scrub:
There are about 900 recipes for sugar scrubs. This is the one I personally prefer.
1 part brown sugar
1 part sea salt
1 part almond oil (you may also use olive oil, or other oils suitable for skin, but almond is my preference)
3-5 drops of essential oil (lavender is relaxing, but peppermint and eucalyptus together are great for odor and rejuvination)
Spoonfull of rolled oats (this soothes the skin and provides some extra exfoliation)
You can also add dried flowers.
*Grind the oats and any dried flowers using a mortar and pestle. You don’t want chunks in the scrub, just some extra texture.*
It should feel like a thick paste. Remember, her feet will already be wet, so you don’t want something too soupy. Add extra almond oil as needed, just be careful you don’t overdo it.
This stuff keeps for a long time. The batch I made like six months ago is still great. Buy a pretty jar to store it in for future pedicures. All the ingredients should be available at any natural grocery store.
